After last weeks great performance we travelled this week to Rockmount for our first away league game of the season and determined to go 2 wins from 2 games. We sensed in training this week that this game reallly meant something to the kids. When our lads were in the Academy we played Rockmount a few times and never beat them as they always fielded an A team where as we always fielded a mixed ability team as our priority was fun & development for all our players at that age. The first half was tight enough affair with both teams having a few chances to take the lead. A tactical change by Blarney management team at half time saw Sean Keane coming into central midfield and this enabled Scott Forrest & Jack O Keefe to push further up into attacking positions. This payed off 4 minutes into second half with a nice through ball into John Lehane who still had a lot of work to do but finished superbly. With Michael O Mahony controlling the midfield and the energy of Josh Roberts we pushed on for number 2. A clinical pass out of defence from Andrew Mc Carthy fell to the feet of John Lehane who unleashed a ferocious shot which was superbly saved but fell to the feet of Jack O Keefe who made up great ground to get into a good position tapped the ball in for number 2 with 15 minutes remaining. Rockmount drove forward to get back into the game but our back 4 of Oiseen O Brien, Andrew Mc Carthy , Michael Murray & Cian Connolly were rock solid and dealt with anything that came their way. It was an overall great team performance and also justifies the strategy of our Academy. 'When it mattered we were ready' We'll done lads!!!!!!
