This was always going to be a tough game with Carrigaline Utd as they were disappointed when we beat them in the cup last season and were looking to avenge that defeat. However our boys like a challenge and prepared well in training during the week. Blarney United started brightly with Scott Forrest linking up well with his wingers Liam O Connor & Josh Roberts splitting the Carrigaline defence on a few occasions. Carrigaline were dangerous on the break but the Blarney defence and midfield were well drilled and confident enough to withstand any pressure that was put on them and played the ball out of defence superbly. With 10 minutes into the game Blarney were awarded a corner on the right hand side. John Lehane took a short corner to Liam O Connor who drew his man out onto him and then laid it off to John Lehane to unleash a shot which was saved by the keeper. The rebound fell to Michael O Mahony who looked up and passed the ball to Scott Forrest who was in a better position. Scott hammered the ball into the roof of the net for a great finish and opened his account for the season. 'Great to see things we work on in training coming together in a match situation' Blarney had the better chances for the rest of the half with Michael O Mahony and Sean Keane beginning to dominate midfield. O Keefe came in for the injured Liam O Connor ( who was well taken care of by our physio Denis Forrest) and within 5 minutes Jack had a big impact on the game. Scott Forrest picked up the ball just inside Carrigaline half and gave another superb pass into John Lehane who looked up and passed it out to Jack O Keefe on the right side who slid a great through ball into Michael O Mahony to finish from close range. Carrigaline pushed hard to get into the game but the Blarney back four of Cian,Andrew,Michael & Oiseen were again rock solid this week. The Blarney management then used up ALL there bench again to good effect with Robert O Gorman and Shay Dineen closing down everything when they came on to keep the pressure off our defence. A dodgy decision with 1 minute to play gave Carrigaline a free kick on edge of Blarney box which was headed in from the free kick to make it 2:1. Our lads played out the added time very professionally to get a deserved victory. Well done lads a great team performance!!!!
