Two goals from Levi O’ Mahony and one goal from Jason Hogan earned Blarney United U16, Division 1 team a hard earned win over Park United at O’ Shea Park last Sunday morning, with the final score being 3 - 1. This was their second win out of the first three games of the season, having a nil all draw away to Passage United last weekend and beating Riverstown 1 – 0 at home the previous week.Blarney United started well and broke the deadlock with the run of play when Levi O’ Mahony lofted the Park United goalkeeper on the 4th minute of game. Blarney United controlled the game well but on around the 15th minute, Blarney made a rear defensive error in the middle of the pitch that allowed Park United players to attack and strike to give Blarney goalkeeper Conor Hogan no chance with a powerful shot from the Park player. Blarney composed themselves and continue to attack and play some tactical football in the first half. Around the 25th minute Blarney was attacking the Park defense when Jason Hogan was clumsy brought down inside the box which resulted in Blarney being awarded a penalty. Without any questions Levi O’ Mahony confidently placed the ball on the penalty spot and strike it well into the right corner of the net. This goal seemed to give the Blarney players a burst of energy as the continued to dominate the play in the first half and was rewarded for their efforts on the 33rd minute when Jason Hogan scored a superb goal by striking the ball over the Park goalkeeper into the top right corner of the net. Park United did not give up and kept Blarney goalkeeper Conor Hogan busy in the first half.Blarney United made hard work for themselves in the second half and Park appeared to dominate play but created very few chances for themselves. This may also be due to the great work rate of the Blarney defense in this team. Last year this team played 975 minutes in the schoolboys league without conceding a goal as so far this year they have played 120 minutes and only have conceded 1 goal.Late into the second half Levi O’ Mahony was denied his hat trick when he was after beating the park goalkeeper and rebounded the ball off the right hand post. On the final whistle Blarney deservedly won the game with the final score being 3 – 1. Man of the match awarded to Jack Moore.Blarney United TeamConor Hogan, Conor Power, David O’Mahony, Declan Hanlon, Jack Moore, James Dineen, Alex Kiely, Evan Murphy, Daniel Murphy, Levi O’Mahony, Jason Hogan, Michael O’ Connell, William Crowley, James Walsh and Brian Walsh.
