Under 13 National Cup 1st Round Blarney United V Springfield Ramblers. We went into this game missing 3 very influential players through injury our captain Andrew Mc Carthy, attacking midfielder MIchael O Mahony and left back Robert O Gorman. The first 10 minutes of the game were all played in Springfield half and we should have had a few goals on the score board but our finishing was letting us down in front of goal. With 20 minutes gone we made the breakthrough when Kelvin O Donoghue hit a nice shot from outside the box that hit the post and rebounded in off the Springfield keeper. Springfield tried hard to get into the game and had 1 effort which was well saved by Blarney keeper Eli Linehan. With the half coming to an end Blarney were awarded a corner and Kelvin got on the end of it to add number 2. At half time Blarney introduced Scott Forrest and new signing Ronan O Brien to make his debut. Within a few minutes of the second half starting Ronan showed us what a good signing he will be when he unleashed a left foot shot from outside the box which went inches wide. Scott and Ronan were now linking up well together and with Josh Roberts also showing great touches up front it was only a matter of time before the Springfield defence would bow to the pressure. Blarney added another 4 goals with 2 from Shay Dineen, 1 from Liam O Connor and 1 from debutant Ronan O Brien. It was also good that we kept a clean sheet and there were also good performances from Michael Murray and Cian Connolly who took over the captains arm band for the day. Credit must go to the all the players as we asked them to play a different formation for various different reasons. They were not very familiar with it as they only seen it for first time in training Thursday night but they showed great intelligence to adapt to it very well. We'll done lads and we now look forward to round 2 away to Bantry Bay Rovers !!!! Next week we play Corinthians away (10:30am in Castletreasure)which is a top of table under 13 premier league clash and all support is welcome.
