A spirited team performance was the main reason Blarney Utd gained all 3 points on a wet and windy Sunday morning in Mayfield. Blarney started the brighter and were awarded a penalty when Oliver Keane was taking down in the box after 20mins. A tremendous save from the Mayfield keeper from a well struck penalty stopped Blarney in their tracks and the momentum swung the Mayfield way for the next 10 minutes. Blarney got back on top towards the end of the half but couldn't put the ball in the net. Early in the second half, Cathal O Brien was upended in the box and Cathal made no mistake from the resultant penalty sending the keeper the wrong way. Blarney kept pressing for a second but to no avail. Well done to all 13 involved especially Padraig Power, Shane Aherne and Goalkeeper Jake O Leary who typified the Blarney resolve!
