A glorious Sunday morning in Riverview saw Blarney fly out of the traps and were 1 nil up after 5 minutes when Shane Aherne headed in from a well-placed corner. Blarney were 2 up after 10 minutes when Daragh Hurley pounced on a rebound after the Midleton keeper parried a rasping Cathal O Brien free kick. Blarney missed some glorious chances to make it an (unlikely) comfortable afternoon and the score remained 2nil at half time. Blarney failed to get going in the second half and handed the initiative to Midleton who made it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go after a period of sustained pressure. A tremendous last ditch tackle from centre half Eoghan Doody prevented the Midleton centre forwards advance on the Blarney goal with time running out. Blarney thought they had made it 3-1 at the end only for the ref to harshly rule out John Lehane's side foot finish from a Blarney corner. Steady performances from Daragh Hurley, John Forest and Jake O Leary!
