U13 Premier: Blarney United 4 Lakewood 2 Today it was top versus bottom and the opening minutes of this game saw Blarney Utd play some lovely football and were well in control with all the play in the Lakewood half. We had a number of chances to take the lead and poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept it scoreless. However after 10 minutes with some good play out of defence from Oiseen O Brien the ball went out to Ronan O Brien on the left wing and he put in a nice cross for Kelvin O Donoughue to tap home from close range. As soon as the game re-started Blarney gave away a needless free kick on the right hand side of the 18 yard box. A great ball in from the free kick caught our defence out and Lakewood equalised. At this stage people watching must have been saying is it going to be one of those days !!! The game was then taken over for a 10 minute period by the magic of Ronan O Brien on the left wing. He drove at Lakewood a number of times causing all kinds of panic in their defence and his reward was 2 cracking goals with finishes that would have graced any football match. At half time Blarney led 3-1 and were looking comfortable. Blarney made a few substitutions and Ronan O Brien unfortunatley came off injured. The second half was a fairly even affair and with 12 minutes left the Lakewood striker hit the roof of the net with a great strike which Eli Linehan the Blarney keeper could do nothing about to make it 3-2 We were now in for a nervous finish but Oiseen O Brien was having a very solid game at the back for Blarney United and was well in control when needed. Then with seven minutes remaining up stepped substitute John Lehane to finish the game off with a well taken goal for Blarney United and we now remain top of the league after a hard fought victory. It wasnt one of our best performances and the lesson learnt was there is no easy game in the premier league. Best for Blarney were Ronan and Oiseen O Brien. Well done lads!!! Away to Bantry Bay Rovers next week in 2nd round of National Cup.
