Looking to bounce back from last weeks defeat to Greenwood and maintain their title challenge the Blarney Utd U-11’s travelled to Buttevant FC. Blarney started the game very brightly with the midfield trio of Billy O’Sullivan, Gavin O’Sullivan and Cameron Lynch working extremely hard resulting in Blarney having the lions share of the possession in the first 20 minutes and they got their reward when Cameron Lynch scored direct from a corner kick . The goal however only seemed to spur Buttevant into live and were the better side for the remaining ten minutes of the half and only some good defending from the Blarney rearguard and a great save from Blarney Utd keeper Ben Maher kept the score at one nil at half time. The second half started in much the same manner as the first with Blarney having more of the possession and chances with Blarney forwards Jack Dennehy and Cathal McCarthy looking very lively up front however Buttevant still remaining very dangerous on the counter attack. With 20 minutes gone in the second half some great Blarney passing freed Billy O’Sullivan down the right hand side, his shot across the Buttevant keeper was very well saved but Jack Dennehy was perfectly positioned to tap in the rebound to double Blarneys Utd. advantage. Buttevant to their credit continued to rally and only for heroic defending from captain Cian Curran, Jonathan Keane and David Keane and a few outstanding saves from Ben Maher kept them at bay. In what was a very close and hard earned victory Blarney eventually ran out 2-0 winners in what was their first clean sheet of the season and the first time Buttevant had failed to score in the league this season. Jonathan Keane was the Blarney MOM.
