Last Sunday morning Blarney United U16 team move top of the Division 1 Schoolboys league table with a 0 - 3 win away to Kilreen Celtic. Blarney took an early lead 15 minutes into the game from a free kick. Blarney were awarded the free kick a few yards outside the penalty box on the right hand side when Alex Kiely was blatantly taken down as he challenged the Kilreen defenders. Declan Hanlon stood up to take the free kick and delivered a superb ball into the box where Jason Hogan leapt high into the air to head the ball into the back of the net. Within another 4 minute Jason Hogan had the ball in the back of the net only for his efforts controversially ruled offside. On the 30th minute Blarney were forced to substitute Conor Power, up to this point he was playing an outstanding game in midfield, but due to injury the substitution had to be made and he was replaced by Mark Lynch. At the half time whistle the score remained 1 – 0. Blarney wasted no time in the second half when after only 4 minutes into the half Aaron Kirby Hennessy attacked and beat the Kilreen defence and laid off the ball to Levi O' Mahony who calmly put it past the Kilreen goalkeeper into the net. Less than 8 minutes later again Levi O’ Mahony showed his magic and fine skill and netted a third goal for Blarney again assist by Aaron Kirby Hennessy. Kilreen continued to fight back physically in the second half and did create many chances to shoot at goal but their best chance was 10 minutes from the final whistle, when the ball was crossed in from the left hand side to be connected with a fine bicycle kick from the Kilreen player only to be denied by Conor Hogan who was outstretched to catch the high ball and stopped the ball from going into the Blarney net. On the final whistle Blarney won 0 – 3. Over all a great team performance, best individual performance Alex Kiely and Brian Walsh Blarney United U16 Team Conor Hogan, Alex Kiely, Declan Hanlon, Jack Moore, James Dineen, Conor Power, Brian Walsh, Evan Murphy, Levi O’Mahony, Jason Hogan, Aaron Kirby Hennessy, Mark Lynch and Will Crowley.
