U11: Youghal 2-3 Blarney United

Blarney make a statement of intent in Youghal.Blarney travelled to Youghal knowing they would be up against it and Youghal lived up to their expectations in what was a great football display by both teams on a great surface. Blarney started the brightest and with some great passing and good counter attacking play they took a deserved lead on 14 minutes when a lively Adam O’Mahony burst through the Youghal defence and drove the ball low to the corner of the net to make it 1-0. Then 5 minutes later Youghal responded when they won possession inside the Blarney half on the left touchline and the ball was squared to a Youghall player and he struck the ball from 25yrds to the right hand bottom corner to get a worthy equaliser to make it 1-1with 19 minutes gone. With the Blarney defence staying strong and weathering some Youghal pressure Blarney broke on the counter attack on 25 minutes with Cathal McCarthy playing a clever pass between the Youghal defence Adam O’Mahony’s pace allowed him to be first to the ball and he coolly slotted home to make it 2-1 on the day and his 3rd gaol in 2 matches. Blarney was now well on top and with the midfield using the space out wide where Cathal McCarty on the left and Cameron Lynch on the right were a constant treat. The third goal duly came on the 29th minute when Lynch worked back to win the ball inside his own half and went on a 60 yd run to the Youghal box and he squared the ball from 6yrds where Jack Dennehy pounced to slot home from close range to make it a deserved 3-1.Youghal got a second in the 31 min when they converted a free kick from 15yrds to make it 3-2 at HT. The second half remained scoreless but Blarney had numerous chances but did not convert, Blarney deserved their win on the day. Man of the Match was Jonathan Keane at Right back.
