Blarney United 3 V Leeside 0 Blarney United U16 team had an impressive 3 – 0 win last Sunday morning against a courageous Leeside team, in the Division 1 Schoolboys League. This game by far was Blarney best performance this season with 2 well orchestrated goals scored from play and the third scored from a well taken free kick. Blarney took an early lead 5 minutes into the game when Blarney was awarded a free on the left hand side inside their own half. The free was taken quickly by Declan Hanlon which was received by Aaron Kirby Hennessy who continued to take the ball up the line beating the Leeside midfield, Hennessy then inch perfectly passed the ball to Levi O’ Mahony who was ahead of him to his right, O’ Mahony effortlessly got pass the Leeside defence and coolly put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Within a minute of the first goal Blarney had scored their second goal from a free kick awarded for a back pass from outside the penalty box. Declan Hanlon stood up to take the free and hammered the ball into the roof of the Leeside net. Blarney controlled the game well in the first half but Leeside did threaten on a few occasions but found it impossible to pass the Blarney defence. On the 35 minute of the game Evan Murphy forced the Leeside keeper to make a superb save from a strike which was heading into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Blarney regrouped at half time and was well aware that Leeside were not going to give up easily as they were in 3rd position of the table prior the game and only 3 points behind Blarney who were top of the table. From the start of the second half Blarney appeared to take control of the game by forcing pressure on the Leeside team in all areas of the pitch. Blarney were rewarded for their effort 7 minutes into the second half when a clever ball from Levi O' Mahony found Brian Walsh who carried the ball out wide to the right had corner and in beating his man swung the ball inch perfectly to Jason Hogan who struck the ball past the Leeside goalkeeper. With Blarney 3 – 0 up early in the second half their priority was to finish out the game with a clean sheet which they achieved to do and see them 3 points ahead on top of the table. Man of the match goes to Evan Murphy who worked tirelessly throughout the whole game. Next game is in the U16 Cork Schoolboys, Division 1 league, Temple United v Blarney next Sunday away in Temple Park at 10.30am.
