U13 Premier Douglas Hall 0 Blarney United 4

Today we played Douglas Hall away in terrible weather conditions and it was a credit to the lads who battled for the whole game to come away with a comprehensive victory to stay on top of the league. With 5 minutes gone we were awarded a free kick on the edge of Douglas Hall box after Ronan O Brien was taken down. John Lehane took the resultant free kick and even though we got a bit of luck with the ball slipping through the goalkeepers hands it was well taken by John to get it on target and make it difficult for the goalkeeper to save. This settled us down well and Sean Keane and Kelvin O Donoghue were dominating in midfield and were always dangerous going forward. With 20 minutes gone a good move from the back saw Cian Connolly pick out a good pass to Sean Keane in the middle of the pitch who released it to Jack O Keefe on the right hand side who in turn gave a good ball in to Scott Forrest who had a good shot saved by the Douglas defender to give Blarney a corner. A fantastic Delivery by Jack O Keefe from the corner picked out Kelvin O Donoghue who blasted a great header past the Douglas Hall goal keeper to make it 2-0.Douglas Hall pressed hard to get back into the game but the Blarney back four and goal keeper were playing well and the midfield of John, Sean, Kelvin and Jack were providing great protection and backup for them. With one minute left in the first half Blarney were awarded a corner on the right hand side and up stepped Kelvin to whip in a fantastic corner that gave the goalkeeper no chance as he scored direct from the corner. At half time the score was 3-0 and Blarney made one change with Josh Roberts coming in to replace the injured Ronan O Brien. At the start of the second half Douglas came at Blarney but again the lads did fantastic soaking up the pressure and catching Douglas on the break with Scott and John working hard up front for the team.Blarney used up their bench and the lads that came on Shay and Oiseen chased every ball down to ensure we kept another clean sheet. With 10 minutes left Sean Keane picked up the ball again in midfield and fed Kelvin who ran at Douglas and fired a good shot past the Douglas keeper to complete his hat trick (great achievement playing in central midfield). The game finished 4-0 and it was another fantastic team performance again by all scoring 4 goals and keeping another clean sheet but more importantly the experience gained playing in these weather conditions will stand to them in the future.Best for Blarney today were Jack O Keffe, Sean Keane and Kelvin O Donoghue scoring 3 goals from midfield.Well Done Lads !!!!
