U13 Premier Riverstown 1 Blarney United 4After suffering our first loss of the season last week in the National Cup the lads were determined to get back to winning ways this week.It was a tough fixture away to Riverstown who are third place in the League and are very hard to beat at home. They had the better start than us with more of the possession however after 7 minutes we got the best chance of the game so far when Ronan O Brien broke on the left wing and sent in a great ball across the face of goal which just eluded our strikers.Riverstown came back at us and some very good defending by Robert O Gorman and a few good saves again this week from Eli Linehan kept us in the game. With fifteen minutes gone we started to settle and our midfield started playing some good football and every time Ronan O Brien got the ball on the left he was a real threat and after 18 minutes one of his good runs down the left wing led to him been taken down by the Riverstown right back to gift us a free kick on the edge of the box.Up stepped John Lehane to take a wonderful free kick and planted it into the top right hand corner to give us a 1-0 lead. This drove our boys on who desperately wanted to get a 2nd before half time and with 6 minutes before half time Robert O Gorman fed Ronan O Brien on the left wing and he again ran at the Riverstown defence and was again taken down to earn us another free kick. This time John Lehane whipped in a lovely free kick which was timed to perfection by Kelvin O Donoghue and he headed it into the roof of the net to keep up his good goal scoring ratio of a goal a game. The half finished at 2-0 a lead which was well deserved. The start of the second half saw Riverstown pressing to get back into the game but the Blarney back four of Cian Connolly, Andrew Mc Carthy ,Michael Murray and Robert O Gorman were in great form and stuck to the game plan that was worked on in training during the week. After 12 minutes gone in the second half Ronan O Brien picked up the ball in his own half and ran at the Riverstown defence again displaying great speed and strength he beat 2 players and carried his run on into the box and slotted it past the Riverstown keeper to make it 3-0.Our lads were now full of confidence and we had a number of chances to make it 4.The Blarney Management team made a few changes to ensure we kept the pressure on Riverstown and Shay Dineen and Liam O Connor done just that when they were introduced. Then Ronan was fed the ball just inside the box and took a snap shot which beat the keeper and earn him his second of the game. With 5 minutes to go Riverstown got a consolation goal but game was well and truly over at that stage.Best for Blarney were Robert O Gorman,Cian Connolly,John Lehane and Ronan O Brien.A great win lads and ye showed great character and determination to get back to winning ways after last weeks disappointment Well Done !!!!!
