Blarney Boys Provide Stern Test To League-Leaders. High-Flying Midleton arrived at O'Shea Park having swept all before them in the league to-date. The Blarney boys were ready for a big challenge and matched the unbeaten East-Cork side man-for-man in the opening half. A committed team performance which maintained excellent shape throughout were well protected at the back with the outstanding Eoin Kirby, who was well supported at either side by Adam Higgins and Charlie Murphy. There was little quarter given in the first-half with both defences on top, so it was all to play for at the break with the score standing at 0-0. Blarney were more than unfortunate at the start of the second-half with two set-pieces undoing the home side in quick succession. Un-dterrred, the home side rolled-up their sleeves and kept playing the the football that has seen them develop so well as a team over the last couple of months. Blarney kept on the pressure and continued to create chances with only the cross-bar, a close penalty call and two excellent saves by the Midleton keeper denying them their just reward. The visting defence were kept equally busy by the industrious Dylan Constant who provided great energy in the lone-striker role. The full-time whistle brought some welcome relief to the visitors, whose own excellent performance was needed to mainatin their unbeaten record as they wre stretched all the way by a Blarney team that no-one will look foward to facing this season. The result may have been disappointing but the excellent performance was all that was asked-for and gives the squad great encouragement for the games ahead.
