Blarney Utd V Leeds FC - 15-Nov-14 Final Score 0-2 Blarney hosted Leeds in their ninth game and the halfway point of the season and it was a very good game of football. Blarney started off the brightest and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 5th min when Cameron Lynch latched onto a hopping ball from 20 yards and his effort flew inches past the Leeds upright. Blarney had most of the chances early on and when Jack Dennehy played a defence cutting pass on the 15th minute to the on running Lynch he hit a low driving shot just wide of the Leeds goal. The Blarney defence were very solid in the first half with Jerry Murphy and Jonathan Keane out wide and Gavin O’Sullivan with Cathal McCarthy in the centre back positions, Blarney keeper Ben Maher had little to do in the first half. David Keane did very well to mark the Leeds right winger who was Leeds main threat and was very frustrated with the close attention. Blarney had three or four more chances before the break but they did not take them and it would turn out to be costly in the end. 0-0 at HT. The second half picked up were the first finished off and both teams were going end to end. The first goal came after 40min when the Leeds right midfielder eventually got his cross in and Leeds had a spare player at the back post to tap in and make it 1-0. Blarney did pile on the pressure to make the game all square and with a great one /two passing move on the 50th min from Dennehy to Murray his shot was saved by the Leeds keeper. With Blarney pushing for the equaliser Leeds won the ball in midfield from a Blarney attack and Leeds had a spare man upfront and when the ball was played into his feet his slotted the ball low to make it 2-0. Blarney deserved more on the day with some great football and plenty of goal chances and when the final whistle sounded Leeds were aware that their performance did not warrant a 2-0 victory on the day. Blarney will now concentrate on their next home game V Wilton on the 22nd. MOM Cathal McCarthy
