Blarney Utd V Wilton - 22-Nov-14 Final Score 4-0 Blarney hosted Wilton in their tenth league game looking to replicate their hard fought victory over the same team at the start of season. Blarney started off the game very brightly and had numerous opportunities to take the lead in the first 15 minutes only to find the Wilton keeper in inspired form. Blarneys dominance did however pay off on 20 minutes when Jack Dennehy played a ball out wide to the on running Billy O’Sullivan and it was a 50/50 race to the ball and with the Wilton keeper who at first was hesitant to come off his line and when he did so O'Sullivan had the pace to get their and he made no mistake and rifled his shot to the roof of the Wilton net. As Blarney continued to press high up the pitch in search of a second goal, Wilton were a threat on the counter attack and were unlucky not to level on 20 minutes when the Wilton number 10 latched onto a ball over the top and as Ben Maher the Blarney keeper rushed out to close the angle his lobbed shot hit the top of the crossbar. All in all Blarney went in at half time a deserved 1-0 up. The second half started in a similar fashion to the first as Blarney continued to press home their territorial and possession advantage and after 10 minutes it was substitute Adam O’Mahony who ran onto a through ball and he slotted the ball to the left of the advancing Keeper and doubled Blarneys advantage. Late goals from Billy O’Sullivan (his 8th of the season) and a first of the season from Conor O’Leary gave Blarney Utd their biggest win of the season against a very gutsy Wilton team. The win puts Blarney Utd second and still in the hunt for promotion. Blarney will now concentrate on their next league match away to Leeside on the 29nd. MOM was Jerry Murphy.
