Lakewood FC V Blarney - 06-Dec-14 Final Score 2-1 With Blarneys league match against Carrigaline cancelled Blarney arranged a friendly against a very good premier team Lakewood…. This was a excellent opportunity for Blarney to see whether they could compete at the premier level. Lakewood dominated the early exchanges on a very wet and uneven surface as Blarney struggled to get come to terms with the pitch and also the physicality of Lakewood. A brilliant save from goalkeeper Ben Maher and some heroic defending from Gavin O’Sullivan, Cian Curran, David and Jonathan Keane kept the score at 0-0 after 10 minutes, then against the run of play a ball over the top from Blarneys Cameron Lynch was latched onto by Adam O’Mahony who did very well to hold off the Lakewood defence to round the keeper and slot the ball home. Lakewood continued to press and an unstoppable shot from the Lakewood no. 9 after 20 minutes pulled the game level. Lakewood again scored after 25 minutes and gave them a deserved 2-1 lead at half time. The second half was a much tighter affair as Blarney got to grips with both the surface and the Lakewood physicality and created the best of the opportunities with Adam O’Mahony and Jack Dennehy going close. The game finished 2-1 but Blarney can be very proud of the way they performed and showed themselves that that can compete with the very best in Cork at U-11. MOM Cathal McCarthy
