U13 PREMIER CARRIGALINE UTD 0 BLARNEY UNITED 1 Today we were away to Carrigaline United the only team to have beaten us so far this season in National cup 3 weeks ago. We didn't do ourselves justice that day and the lads were determined to make amends. We all know strikers win games for you but today it was our defence who inspired us to a fantastic victory. The game started off with both teams battling in midfield for possession and there weren't many clear chances for either team. With 10 minutes gone Kelvin o Donoghue and Sean Keane began to get on top in midfield and anytime they fed Ronan O Brien and Jack O Keefe Blarney penetrated the Carrigaline defence to get a shot on target or win a corner. Carrigaline were counter attacking well and with 20 minutes gone in the game great covering by Cian Connolly prevented a real good chance for Carrigaline. The score at halft time was 0-0 and all to play for. The second saw the Blarney left back Liam O Connor come more and more into the game and any time he got forward he was a real threat. After 15 minutes gone in the second half Carrigaline again were through on goal and a fantastic last ditch tackle from Cian Connolly again denied Carrigaline. After 18 minutes Blarney replaced Sean Keane (who had gallantly ran himself into the ground for his team) with Michael O Mahony and the fresh legs paid off as the Blarney midfield started to dominate. The pressure on Carrigaline was now relentless and a few free kicks from John Lehane and Andrew Mc Carthy came very close. The pressure paid off when a good ball sent in from the right from Jack O Keefe was handled by the Carrigaline full back. Liam O Connor stepped up to slot home a great penalty to leave the score 1-0 with 5 minutes to go. The Blarney back 4 were amazing and they snuffed out any threats from Carrigaline for the remainder of the game. The lads won a great battle today as the 2 teams were a credit to there clubs. Best for Blarney were Cian Connolly, Michael Murray, Andrew Mc Carthy and Liam O Connor. Well done lads still top of the league!!!!
