Fermoy V Blarney Blarney United U16, division 1 team had a good start in the New Year with a deservingly 1 – 0 win away to Fermoy last Sunday morning. Blarney had the better start to the game and dominated the majority of the first half. Blarney were denied two scoring chances in the first 30 min when Fermoy goalkeeper made two outstanding saves from shots from Jason Hogan and Aaron Kirby Hennessy. On the 35th minute Levi O’ Mahony received a fine ball from Aaron Kirby Hennessy and in beating his marker Levi was one on one with the Fermoy keeper and he calmly tucked the ball into the back of the net. At half time the score was 1 - 0 to Blarney. The second half was a more even game with Fermoy fighting hard to get an equaliser and Blarney try hard to finish the game by getting a second goal. Blarney were the more threatening team and on the 60th minute they were awarded a penalty which was poorly taken by Aaron Kirby Hennessy where he kicked the ball directly at the Fermoy keeper who made a easy save. In the closing stages of the second half Fermoy skinned the ball over the Blarney crossbar from a free kick, this was their best chance in the game. At the final whistle the game finished 1- 0 to Blarney Blarney United Team Conor Hogan, Brian Walsh, Alex Kiely, Jack Moore, James Dineen, Conor Power, Mark Lynch, Evan Murphy, Jason Hogan, Levi O’ Mahony, Aaron Kirby Hennessy and Will Crowley.
