Roy Keane U13 Premier League College Corinthians 5 Blarney United 1 Today we played Corinthians away with them having to win this game to stay in contention with us in the battle for league honours. We started very well and after 2minutes we were awarded a free kick about 10 yards from their 18yard box Andrew Mc Carthy struck it well and it cannoned off the crossbar. This settled us down and 2 minutes later Ronan O Brien was unlucky with a shot from outside the box which went just over. Blarney had all of the possession and it was only a matter of time before the break through came. Jack O Keefe made a fantastic run on the right beating 2 defenders on the byline to get a cross in which deflected off a Corinthians defender into the back of the net. Blarney were well on top and had another 1 or 2 chances to make it 2-0. Then after 16minutes the game changed in favour of Corinthians. They broke down their left wing and crossed the ball in which eluded everyone and was picked up by one of their midfielders on the right wing he crossed it in again and the flight of it tricked everyone and ended up in the back of the net. Then with 5 minutes to go to half time they scored again when we failed to clear the ball on our right hand side. At half time instead of Blarney being 2 up and cruising we now found ourselves a goal down. At the start of the second half we drove at Corinthians looking for an equaliser and Scott Forrest was unlucky not to score from a corner. Then with 6 minutes gone came the sucker punch when Corintians broke well and fed their striker to grab number 3. Blarney were now chasing the game and in fairness Corinthians were countering very well and grabbed a fourth soon after. A fantastic free kick for Blarney from outside the box by John Lehane crashed off the crossbar which just summed up our day. Blarney brought on their bench and they played very well battling till the end. Josh Roberts was unlucky not to score when he made a great run with the ball on the left but a last ditch tackle from a Corinthians defender denied him. It finished 5-1 to Corinthians in the end. Today was just one of those days where things didn’t work out for us but in fairness that happens in football. We stand 3 points clear at the top of the league with 1 game more played than Corinthians. We have a great bunch of kids with everything to play for still in league and cup and they are determined to rectify todays result and we know they will.
