Today Blarney Utd played Middleton FC as second took on third in Division 1. With both teams having an outside chance of promotion this was a must win for both sides. With the wind in the first half Blarney started the game much the brighter team with Billy O’Sullivan having a rasping shot tipped just over the bar after 2 minutes. Blarney continued to press and after 15 minutes Jonathan Keane scored his second goal of the season when he broke down the right hand side and cut inside the LB his shot from 15yrds nestled into the bottom left corner. Midleton to their credit pushed for a equaliser in a very even last 15 minutes of the half with both defences winning out.Midleton started the second half the brighter and pressed the Blarney defence without creating any real clear cut chance however Blarney looked the more dangerous on the counter attack and in one such break after 15 minutes Sean Murray Martin latched onto a well weighted pass from Jonathan Keane to slip the ball past the out rushing keeper and score Blarneys second. With the confidence of a two goal cushion Blarney started to play some really nice football from the back and with 23 minutes gone Billy O’Sullivan who was a constant thorn in Midleton’s side all day down the left latched onto a great cross from Jonathan Keanes cross to volley home from 7 yards to make it 3 nil. Midleton continued to push for a goal in the remaining minutes and when they were awarded a free kick for a handball just inside the Blarney half it took a great save from the inform Ben Maher to keep a clean sheet for the visitors. Blarney deserved the win on the day with their strongest performance of the season.MOM Jonathan Keane
