Blarney United U16 Players and Managers would like to thank all the supporters who gave the team huge encouragement at the U16 National Cup which took centre stage at O’ Shea Park on the 1st February when Blarney United took on Carrigaline United. On paper this game would have been seen as David v’s Goliath match as Blarney is placed second on the table with 29 points in the U16 Division 1 Cork Schoolboy League with two point behind and two games in hand and at the same time Carrigaline are 8 points ahead with 34 points on top of the U16 Premier Division, Cork Schoolboy League. Both teams have played 12 games in their leagues Blarney 8 wins, 3 draws and 1 lose and Carrigaline with 11 wins and 1 draw. From the starting whistle to the final whistle this game was played at a very high tempo with both teams creating very few chances. At the final whistle Blarney lost 1 – 0 with Carrigaline scoring a fine goal early in the second half. A lot a credit must be giving to the Blarney players as the played an outstanding game to the top team of the premier league.
