A committed Blarney performance earned little reward from a game where a well organised Mayfield team made the most of their chances. If fairness to the Blarney boys, they give it a full 60 minutes of effort, even when it became clear that it wasn’t going to be their day. A swirling wind and a wicked bounce contributed to the first Mayfield goal while the second was a result of a goal-mouth scramble where the ball found its way to the net. After a superbly struck free-kick from Dylan Constant hit the bar, the writing was on the wall but Blarney battled bravely to the bitter end. There were stand-out performances from Thomas Falvey at full-back and Jack Homan in midfield who both epitomised the fighting spirit of this team. With only 3 points separating Blarney from the next 4 higher placed teams in the league, those fighting qualities may yet stand to this team in the remaining games of the seaon.
