Last Sunday saw Blarney United U16, division 1, Schoolboy’s team play a top of the table clash away to Leeside. Prior to the game Blarney were on top of their table with 30 point and a game in hand while Leeside were second on the table with 29 points. What should have been a cracker of a game turned out to be very one sided game to Leeside. In the first half a most of the game was played in the centre of the pitch with Leeside having the majority of the possession. Leesides determination paid off on the 36th minute when they score a fine goal struck from outside the Blarney box. Three minutes later Blarney were 2 – 0 down when they failed to clear a simple ball inside their own penalty box. At half time the game remained 2 – 0. The second half saw Blarney up their game but Leeside defended the game well. Blarney was unlucky not to get a goal back half way through the second half when they saw a ball cleared off the Leeside goal line. Blarney battled hard in attacking the game and did create a few scoring chances in the second half but Leeside were very determent to win the game with a clean sheet. On the final minute of the game Leeside scored another goal from play and on the final whistle the score was 3 – 0 to Leeside. Overall like most teams have experienced this was a bad day in the office for this Blarney team and they have many lessons to learn from this game to see out the rest of season. With this loss Blarney are second on the table with 30 points and a game in hand and Leeside returned to the top with 32 points.
