Lakewood 1 Blarney United 6 Today we played Lakewood in our second last league game of the season and again the lad’s attitude was top class. Blarney started very well and after 2 minutes Ronan O Brien collected the ball in midfield and ran at the Lakewood defence and unleashed a powerful shot which was saved well by the Lakewood keeper.
Six minutes later Blarney won a corner and Scott Forrest picked up a good position just outside six yard box and when ball rebounded out to him he slotted it into right hand corner to give Blarney a 1-0 lead.
Blarney were well in control but a sloppy back pass left Lakewood in to equalise after 13 minutes.
This was the catalyst for Blarney to drive on and finish the game and some fantastic football from Scott Forrest, Ronan O Brien and Kelvin O Donoghue saw Blarney rip apart the Lakewood defence on a number of occasions and add 3 more goals to the score line before half time (1 more from Scott and 1 each for Kelvin & Ronan)
Blarney well deserved their lead at half time with the score 4-1 in favour of Blarney. The start of the second half saw Blarney make 4 substitutions and in fairness they carried on where they left off brining the game to Lakewood. The conditions were not the best as there was a fair wind blowing but as always the Blarney lads tried their best to get the ball down and play some attractive football.
Another 2 goals in the second half by Kelvin O Donoghue and Michael O Mahony saw Blarney run out comfortable winners 6-1.
Best on the day for Blarney were Scott Forrest, Ronan O Brien and Kelvin O Donoghue. With 1 tough away league game to play against St Marys we are now 12 clear of Corinthians however they have played 4 games less therefore this game against St Mary's is very important so please come out and support the lads.
Well done again lads for the effort and great attitude shown by the whole squad!!!
